3D Asset Optimization

Zakeke’s 3D Asset Optimization feature ensures that 3D models are fully optimized for real-time visualization, improving performance while maintaining high-quality details. This functionality automatically processes 3D assets by reducing polygon count, optimizing textures, and enhancing compatibility across different devices and browsers.

With 3D Asset Optimization, you can:

Improve Performance: Reduce file size and complexity without compromising visual fidelity.

Ensure Compatibility: Adapt models for seamless rendering across web, mobile, and AR/VR applications.

Streamline Workflow: Automate the optimization process, saving time and effort for designers and developers.

This feature is ideal for e-commerce, product customization, and interactive 3D experiences, enabling smooth and engaging customer interactions.

1. Optimize 3D Model

You can optimize your 3D model using the “Optimize 3D Asset” button in the Optimize tab. Before starting the optimization, make sure to select the right preset from the dropdown menu to the left of the button.

An optimization preset is a predefined set of parameters used to automatically reduce the complexity of a 3D model—such as polygon count, texture resolution, and file size—while preserving visual quality and ensuring optimal performance across devices and platforms.

Zakeke provides a set of ready-made presets based on typical 3D model processing workflows. These presets are regularly updated to ensure optimal results. Below are some of the available presets.

  • Universal: Balanced compression for general polygonal models. Optimizes the file while maintaining a good level of detail.
  • Photogrammetry: Ideal for 3D scan-based models. Reduces file size while preserving maximum visual fidelity.
  • CAD: Optimizes CAD files without compromising geometric accuracy. Efficient tessellation reduces surface complexity while maintaining fidelity.
  • Lossless Compression: Faithfully preserves every detail of the model. Ideal for maximum quality, but the file may exceed 10 MB depending on complexity and texture size.
  • Animation: Optimizes models with morphing animations, ensuring smooth deformation. The file may exceed 10 MB depending on complexity and texture size.
  • Deep Compression: Minimizes file size at the cost of quality. Ideal when prioritizing loading and execution speed.

Optimize 3D Asset

Optimizations are subject to the pricing rules outlined HERE.

Once the optimization is launched, a banner will appear indicating the process is running. Optimization may take a few minutes and runs in the background, so you can return to the asset later or click the “Check Status” button to monitor progress.

Once the optimization process is complete, two scenarios are possible.

  • Case 1: The "Optimized" 3D model still shows some KPIs exceeding the recommended thresholds, indicating further optimization may be needed.

  • Case 2: The "Optimized" 3D model meets all performance guidelines and is considered compliant.

While KPIs help guide the model toward optimal technical performance, the result is still subjective — visual artifacts may appear due to aggressive or non-ideal compression.

To evaluate the visual quality, use the toggle in the bottom-left corner of the viewer to compare the original model with the optimized one.

If necessary, you can repeat the optimization process. Zakeke always keeps the latest processed version and makes it available for publishing.

1.1 Advanced Settings

The 3D Asset Optimization page allows you to optimize your 3D models through a set of configurable options, organized into intuitive sections.

You can start by selecting your preferred settings or choosing a pre-configured preset tailored to a specific use case.

Here’s a breakdown of each part of the interface.

  • Import: Customize how the 3D model is imported into Zakeke. These settings are useful to align your model with Zakeke’s standards.
  • Scene Graph Flattening: Full control over scene graph, specifying how nodes are merged or kept.

  • 3D Edit: Modify the asset, including generation of new Uvs, assignment of new textures, centering the model, and more.
  • Mesh Culling: Removal of small features or invisible interior geometry.

  •  Optimize: Optimization of mesh and material data, including options for decimation, remeshing, texture atlas baking, uv aggregation, and more.

  • Modifier: Additional modifiers on the whole 3D model, such as screen size adaptive or MB size adaptive optimization.

  • Export: Specification and customization of export options.

2. How to Use optimized 3D Models into Zakeke Product Configurator and Visual Customizer

Optimized 3D models stored in the Zakeke 3D DAM can be directly used in your customization experiences through the Product Configurator (PC) and the Visual Customizer (VC).

The following steps explain how to prepare and import optimized assets.

  1. Upload the model to the Asset Library

Upload the individual 3D mesh (one mesh per file) to the DAM using the “Upload a new 3D Model” option in the 3D DAM back office.

  2. Run the optimization

Once uploaded, go to the model’s detail page and launch the most appropriate optimization using one of the available presets (e.g. Universal, CAD, Photogrammetry). You can evaluate the result through the built-in viewer and, if needed, repeat the process with a different preset.

  3. Import the optimized model

After the asset is marked as “Optimized”, go to your Product Configurator or Visual Customizer project and use the “Import from DAM” feature to select and load the model directly from the DAM.

3. Pricing Optimizations

Each 3D model optimization using the Optimization Tool in the Zakeke 3D DAM costs $0.60 per run for all Starter, Grow, and Scale plans.

For Enterprise plans, pricing is customized and agreed upon with your dedicated account manager.

During the trial period, the first 2 optimizations are free. This does not apply to active paid plans.
